Denise Oates, 5th Grade Teacher at Providence Classical School was chosen by the community as the October Williamsburg’s Choice ~ Teacher of the Month, and is pictured at School Crossing receiving her Gift Certificate from Owner Sherry Phipps.  To vote online for the November Teacher of the Month  visit www.School-Crossing.com and www.WilliamsburgFamilies.com.
Denise Oates teaches 5th Grade at Providence Classical School and has been there since 2005.  She was drawn to PCS because, “the school believes students should be taught to discern, articulate and live truth”.
We asked her what she wants her children to be able to do when they leave her classroom – that would prepare them for further education and life in general? She told us that she would like them “to remember and act upon the words of St. Paul: `Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, think on these things.'”
In our final question we asked her, “If you could ask parents to do one thing to help their children’s academic success what would it be?”  She replied that she would encourage them to “read to and with their children every day”.  And then she added, “Oh, and also throw out the video games!”
