Community Health Forum on mental health and aging, April 5 2014

On  April 5th, 2014 St. Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church and St Stephen Lutheran Church will join forces to sponsor a Community Health Forum, Nurturing Church & Community Connections.  The purpose of the forum is to begin a community dialogue around churches responding to two of the most vulnerable populations in our community, one being people with mental health and substance abuse challenges and two being the aging population.

Marco Grimaldo, Director of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy in Richmond, will be the keynote speaker. The morning session will address the issue of mental health support for all age groups in our community. Speakers and discussion in break out groups, led by resource experts, will focus on how we, as people of faith, can be informed, advocate, and provide a welcoming, safe, and open place for all of God’s people.

The second focus will deal with the challenges of aging in our churches and surrounding communities. This afternoon session will ​​focus on how people of faith can strive to nurture connections with seniors in our churches and community. Join us for an interesting and informative day. You will leave with new thoughts and ideas to consider!
