Celebrate Black History Month 2014 – Events at Freedom Park, Williamsburg VA

  • Feb 1, 3-4 p.m. Col. Lafayette Jones Jr., a descendent of those who lived on the land now known as Freedom Park, will talk about 18th century life and freedom experienced more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Feb. 8, 9-10 a.m. Williamsburg native Dylan Pritchett, also known as “The Storyteller,” will teach through stories and provide kid-friendly musical entertainment and games.
  • Feb. 15, 4-5 p.m. – William and Mary Professor Joanne Braxton will explore the importance of the Hot Water Tract in the lives of 18th and 19th century Americans of African, European and Native American descent. Co-sponsored by the College of William and Mary Middle Passage Project 1619 Initiative.
