Botanical Garden’s Children’s Programs, Summer 2016

The Williamsburg Botanical Garden is offering great Children’s Programs this summer.

Sketching in the Garden

May 14, 2016 10AM – 11:30AM

Ages 8-16

Learn how to observe and draw stems, leaves, and flowers from the garden. Collected specimens will be recorded in graphite and then use colored pencils or watercolor paint to complete the drawing. Instructor Linda Miller, local artist. Limit 15 children.

Deer in Your Backyard

June 11, 2016 10AM – 11:30AM

Ages 5-12+

Learn some fascinating facts about these beautiful creatures that show up in your backyard. Instructor: Joe Raich, nature lover and photographer, who has studied and photographed deer in their natural habitat.

Scales and Tails

July 9, 2016 10AM – 11:30AM

All ages

Come join us to explore the differences between reptiles and amphibians. Children can enjoy some hands on activities with creatures brought in by the visiting naturalist Catherine Short. Limit 30 children.

Life of Bees

All ages

August 13, 2016 10AM – 11:30AM

Come take a closer look at the only insect that makes food for people —the honey bee. Children can find out how these helpful insects work together to form colonies, collect pollen, and make honey. We promise no one will get stung! Instructors: Pam Burton and other beekeepers from the Colonial Beekeepers Association.

All classes are held at Freedom Park Interpretive Center, unless otherwise noted.  Registration is required for all children’s programs.  To register, please email wbgkids@gmail.com.  A $5 is suggested.
