Art Museums Community Day FREE DAY of programs and activities at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg on Saturday, November 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bring friends and family along on this free day of programs and activities at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg Community Day on Saturday November 19 from 10 am to 6 pm. Plus WHRO is partnering with the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg for a Classical Open Mic Saturday, November 19, 4-6 p.m. in the Hennage auditorium in conjunction with their NEW exhibit, “Making Music in Early America.”
Museum admission is FREE ALL day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The café will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Explore the Art Museum’s new exhibitions “I made this…”: The Work of Black American Artists and Artisans and Making Music in Early America.
- Take a guided At A Glance tour at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to see some museum favorites.
- Create art in the Goode Education Studio from 2:30 – 4 p.m. inspired by Black quilter Susana Allen Hunter. Enjoy programs in the Hennage Auditorium, including From Freedom to Slavery
- Participate in or be an audience member at the WHRO Classical Open Mic
How do you participate in the WHRO Classical Open Mic?
- Classical musicians of all ages are invited to perform a solo or chamber work (and listeners are always welcome, too!)
- You can sign up to play by sending a Facebook message to WHRO Classical, emailing rebecca.weinstein@whro.org, or calling 757-889-9458.
- Please tell us your name, instrument, and the title, composer, and length of the piece you want to play (10 minutes max).
- A baby grand piano will be available for use in the auditorium; you will need to bring your own pianist
- Music stands and armless chairs will be provided

Q: Do I have to sign up ahead of time?
A: No, you are welcome to show up that night and see if we have room on the schedule. We do tend to fill up, so if you’d like to make sure you get to play, we recommend signing up in advance!
Q: Is this open to music students?
A: Yes! All classical musicians are welcome to participate, from young students to professionals.
Q: What if I’m not a musician?
A: Come and listen! Enjoy a relaxed afternoon of great music and show your support for our wonderful local performers.
Q: Is this a kid-friendly/family-friendly event?
A: Yes! We ask that you give the musicians your attention and try to discourage excessive noise, but children are welcome.
Q: Is there an admission charge?
A: No! This event is free and open to all, made possible by the support of WHRO members.
