Talks@2 — Monthly Series at the Library January – June 2016

WILLIAMSBURG REGIONAL LIBRARY PRESENTS TALKS@2, NEW MONTHLY PRESENTATION SERIES
  • 45-minute illustrated programs covering a broad range of human interest topics.
  • Presenters are library staff who are drawing on personal interests and research.
  • Programs begin in January; beginning in April, the series will be presented in the newly-opened Stryker Building.
The talks are free and open to the public who may choose to attend the entire series or just the topics that are of interest to them.
The lectures begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be presented at either Williamsburg or James City County Library; beginning in April, the newly-opened Stryker Center will join the list of locations.

Tuesday, January 12 (Williamsburg Library), Cartoons and Comics during World War II
From chronicling the everyday experiences of soldiers to boosting the spirits of those back home, learn how cartoons & comics played an important role in the lives of Americans during the second World War.
Monday, February 8 (James City County Library), Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland: Around the World in (less than) 80 Days
Relive the remarkable story of two women’s race to circle the world in fewer than 80 days.
Monday, March 14 (James City County Library), Doris Day: The Girl Next Door
Take a sentimental journey through the film star’s life, music, and career.
Monday, April 11 (Stryker Center), Playbill Williamsburg
Get ready for opening night by exploring plays coming to theaters in Williamsburg and the surrounding cities this spring. Explore the stories, songs, and people who created the upcoming shows.
Tuesday, May 10 (Stryker Center), Eating My Way Through Europe
Take a gastronomic journey through Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and France.
Tuesday, June 14 (Stryker Center), Virginia’s Crooked Road
Enjoy the rich tapestry of sounds that can be heard along Virginia’s musical highway, running along Rt. 58 from the Blue Ridge to the coalfields.
