1. How long have you been teaching and teaching at  Williamsburg Christian Academy?

This is my 2nd year at WCA and my 12th year teaching. I have taught in Georgia as well as Southampton County in Virginia.

2. What drew you to teaching, teaching at Williamsburg Christian Academy and was there any particular reason you chose to teach Kindergarten?

I began teaching dance at age 12 and enjoyed working with children so much that I decided to pursue eduction in college. I chose WCA for my son last year when he started preschool. I loved WCA and knew it was the right fit for our family. There was an opening for a part time preschool teacher  I was excited to take that position. I am so blessed that God provided such a wonderful opportunity for me to be a part of this school along with Carter.  This year I was blessed with the opportunity to move up to kindergarten with most of my preschoolers.   I have definitely found a family at WCA.

I have always loved teaching reading to children. Teaching children to read is on of the greatest gifts I can give as a teacher.

3. What perspective have you gained from being around children daily?

Life through the eyes of a child is magical. I love watching them discover new things each day.  Each day is a gift from God and my students show me this everyday.

4. What do you want your children to be able to do when they leave your classroom – that you know will prepare them for further education and life in general?.

I want them all to believe in themselves. Each of them is a gift from God and they are all special in their own way. No matter what they come up against in life, I want them to know they are loved.  Kindergarten is the foundation. I want them to take away a love of learning and to follow their dreams.

5. If you could ask parents to do one thing to help their children’s academic success what would it be?

Read to your child! Reading at home with your child will encourage your child to be a life long reader.

6. Are you from Williamsburg? If not, where are you from, what brought you here?

I am from Augusta, Georgia. My family moved here when my husband took a position with WestRock in West Point.  We love Williamsburg!
