100 Days of Summer, 100 Days of Hope – American Red Cross Blood Drive
SUBURBAN PROPANE TO SUPPORT “100 DAYS OF SUMMER, 100 DAYS OF HOPE” AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE IN NORFOLK AREA
In effort to spur blood and platelet donations, the Suburban Propane-sponsored event will include Visa gift cards and offer the community an opportunity to volunteer for a worthy cause
WHAT: As part of the American Red Cross “100 Days of Summer, 100 Days of Hope” campaign, Suburban Propane, the official campaign sponsor, will be supporting the “ABC 13 Three Minutes to Saving Lives” blood drive at various locations in and around Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. This is just one of many blood drives as part of the summer long partnership for communities to get involved, and build awareness about the constant need for blood and platelet donations.
And, courtesy of Suburban Propane, all those who come to donate will also receive a $10 Visa gift card.
WHO: The event will include representatives from Suburban Propane and the American Red Cross, as well as blood and platelet donors from the Norfolk area.

WHY: Summer vacations and travel can contribute to reduced availability for people to give blood or platelets. In a spring survey of Red Cross blood and platelet donors, nearly 90 percent indicated plans to take vacations this summer. However, patients don’t get a summer holiday or vacation from needing lifesaving blood. Knowing this, Suburban Propane is supporting the Red Cross’ increased efforts this summer to avoid any kind of supply shortage. The Red Cross relies on volunteer donors for the 15,000 blood donations needed every day to support patients at about 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.
