Youth Events:
December 2 & 3 – Baby Lapsit Storytime Baby Lapsit Storytime is a storytime program especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games.

December 2 & 3 – Baby Stay and Play Stay after storytime to chat with other caregivers while your baby has fun with toys. On the first Monday and Tuesday of the month, experts from Child Development Resources will answer your questions about your baby’s development.

December 3 & 4 – Toddler Storytime Toddler Storytime is a program designed for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years.

Tuesday, December 3 – Cena con Cuentos Cena con Cuentos is a storytime program in Spanish for families that speak Spanish at home with children from ages 0 to 10. Each program combines stories, songs, activities, and dinner for the whole family. Participation is free. Saturday, December 7 – Saturdays @ Frink: Maker Saturday: Wreath Making Discover how to make stunning shabby chic book page and rag wreaths using items you may have at home. Each student will have the opportunity to make a unique wreath to proudly display for family and friends. All necessary supplies are provided. This craft is recommended for ages 5 and up. 10 AM – 1 PM – Abram Frink Jr. Community Center
Saturday, December 7 – Preschool Dance Party What do you get when you add balloons and bubbles to music? A fantastic preschool dance party! Put on your dancing shoes and join us for an exciting hour of songs, movement, rhymes, and just plain fun. Parents, it’s a great time for you to share your best moves with your little ones as well. 11 AM – Stryker Center
Sunday, December 8 – ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas Exhibit Kickoff Celebrate the opening of this collaborative exhibit between William & Mary Libraries and the WRL Gallery at Stryker Center with fun for the whole family, including activities for kids. At 1 pm, join Olaf the Snowman for a wintery dance party with music and games. Starting at 2 pm, craft a snowman magnet. 1-3 PM – Stryker Center
Daily – Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio! Come in from the cold to the James City County Library. Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! James City County Library
Daily – Story Trail Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. We invite families to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library. All Day – James City County Library

Thursday, December 12 – 3D Ornaments Learn about 3D printing and design a decorative holiday ornament! For ages 13+, no registration required. 6:30 PM – Williamsburg Library
Daily — Teen Room at the James City County Library Check out the brand-new teen room at the James City County Library! This room features fun tech including virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, an arcade game table, and lounge seating. For ages 13-18.

Wednesday, December 4 – Tidewater Classical Guitar: TCG Holiday Showcase Our holiday inspired concert is a staple of our season, bringing joy and togetherness to audiences and performers alike! Join us for a festive concert featuring the Tidewater Guitar Orchestra along with some of Hampton Roads’ most talented guitarists and musicians in beautiful downtown Williamsburg! Friday, December 6 – Dewey Decibel Concerts: Bill Jenkins and the Virginia Mountain Boys Singer, songwriter, and cross-picking guitar virtuoso Bill Jenkins and his string band, the Virginia Mountain Boys, bring to life the authentic ballads, camp meeting songs, and early bluegrass favorites of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Saturday, December 7 – Sewing Saturday: Introduction to English Paper Piecing and Cathedral Window Hand sewing project! Learn two different hand quilt piecing techniques as we explore English Paper Piecing (EPP) and the iconic cathedral window square. Supplies provided. Reservations required. Saturday, December 7 & Sunday, December 8 – 20th Anniversary of Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Show @ WRL The engineers of the Ford’s Colony Model Railroad Club return for their 20th year of entertaining visitors and sharing their talent for building miniature worlds. Come enjoy the trains and scenery at the James City County Library. The Norge Depot will also be open to visitors, with special door-to-door transportation by the Kiwanis. Makerspace Open! Check out our new creative space at the Williamsburg Library. Explore 3D printers, Glowforge 3D laser printer, Cricut, and sewing machines during walk-in hours. Read more about the Makerspace. Walk-in hours: Mon-Thurs: 1-5 PM, Sat & Sun: 1-5 PM on the 4th weekend of the month.
Updated September. 17, 2024: Free Covid tests are available at both library buildings! Ask a WRL staff member for a kit (limit 2 per person) or call to schedule a curbside pickup at 757.741.3300, option 1. A library card is not required.
